Myself and this...
Firstly, I will begin with this video: 'Look up' by Gary TurkIt's about social networking and its effects it has upon us in the long-term, such as loneliness and missing out on life opportunities. The poetry performed in this made it especially powerful and moving for me - and the story he told - really affected me! See what you guys think.
I personally think this is true, but then again, I don't think some of us are all that bad. For example, I am aware when I'm around friends that I shouldn't really text or glue my face to my phone when I'm socialising with them, EVEN if they are.. However, some people may also sometimes go on their phone scrolling through sometimes even nothing, just staring at the screen to pretend they didn't see someone...I think we've all done this aha so there are positives and negatives in technology. But again, I completely support this video, so it's mainly negative. What are your views on this?
About myself, hmm.. So currently I'm involved in an exchange programme between my home University in England and Dortmund in Germany, for 5 months! It's great...OK to be honest, there are ups and downs. The first week wasn't so good with settling in and having absolutely no communication with the outside world...which now, come to think of it, reveals my (our) obsession with technology - but then that's a positive; being able to communicate with family members in other countries. And also, aha makes me laugh now after this video, but I was so angry with Dortmund because we weren't given any internet from the beginning we had to pay our first rent; fill out a form; buy a cable; and wait 'til they have received it - to be provided with internet! And it's limited - we only get so much - so some of you probably can relate to my angst, but again! It just goes to show how dependent we have become on technology to waste our time away and make us less bored when all we have to do is: get dressed, take your keys, walk out and go somewhere...
I will in my next blog, in a week from now, as I feel weekly is probably best, enlighten you guys on al my travels so far in the last 2 months of my presence in Germany. Until then, I hope you enjoyed reading my blog!!
