Travels
As promised I will give a brief overview on my travels and experience since being in Germany.
At first it was mainly walking around the city of Dortmund - I believe I still have barely seen even half of this city as of yet... and going out to many bars, mostly the student ones though.
With the help of the Kultur programme that I was in, I fell in love with Cologne or Köln (I prefer to say) the day was freezing but...the Dom was beautiful on the outside and inside. I strongly recommend seeing this cathedral - religious or not - if you're ever nearby. Oh, and also the chocolate museum! ;) Due to only having a limited time, that was the museum I visited however, there are plenty others and all are very close to each other, as well as different.
Like I said, I fell in love with the place, especially the Dom, so when a couple of friends (also exchange students) arranged to go there, it comes at no surprise that I would use this opportunity to go again...and take many more pictures... This time, the time wasn't exactly limited we discovered the shopping side of Cologne as well as the Hard Rock Cafe, expensive but it never hurts to splash out on a shirt with the city's name, now and then :P
Then my most favourite time so far was travelling for one hour and a half towards my hometown in Hessen. I got to meet family members I haven't seen in fourteen years - a very long time... as well as experience places such as Kassel (with its famous Hercules statue - heads up: it's quite a trek don't be stupid like me and not drink anything since 7 a.m. and then walk it up without a liquid in hand!); and Frankfurt am Main where I got to go up the main tower and see Frankfurt in all its glory, and see a small cathedral there too - plain on the outside but beautiful inside.
So far, i've been one of the "boring" ones when it comes to travelling... due to 1. I have work from my home university to do, and would be stupid to not prioritise this, and 2. many others grab the opportunities to travel out to places like Paris, Prague, Amsterdam etc. Yes, I would absolutely LOVE to go, however, I chose Germany for a reason - and so my travels will reside within Germany. The others I can do in the future as I would prefer to have more than a few hours in each place, to fully experience what the country has to offer.
Any suggestions of great places that Germany has to offer, comment below!
I hope you enjoyed my blog, Steph
